Diary of a Cakemaker #30

29th Nov 2023

Phew! It’s been another one of those weeks — it started off at 100mph! We’ve had a lot of corporate orders going out, including a fair few celebratory cakes as our clients celebrate anniversaries and business milestones.

There was a 1st Anniversary cake for the fabulous Gidi Grill restaurant here in Aberdeen, and a celebration cake to mark the impressive 120-year partnership between Munro’s Travel and KLM. I’m not sure we’ve made too many other ‘120th’ “birthday” cakes before!! (That would be a lot of candles!)

We also made a cake to celebrate 5 years of the awesome charity Paws on Plastic. They’ve spent the last five years encouraging dog walkers to pick up a few pieces of litter every time they are out and about. Of course, this not only makes the area safer for their furry friends but makes the environment far more pleasant for everyone. Great job guys!

By far the biggest order this week was the epic chocolate chip cookie extravaganza! We made 500 branded cookies for Tax Assist Aberdeen and Northwood Aberdeen to take to the Big Christmas Light Switch On in Inverurie. When you make cookies there is not much you can do in advance, and the final packaging is the real work! We had all hands on deck and had a lot of fun with our cookie production line. Oven, cool, package, box, repeat! There were a loooot of cookies!

I went to a First Aid training course on Saturday; it was really really good! I must admit that when I’ve done first aid courses in the past, it all makes sense in the room but as soon as I set foot outside of the door, I just can’t remember any of it. This session, run by Forrest Training, was really fun and, more importantly, memorable! Now you know who to call if you need CPR

After the training, I went for one of my regular ‘wanders’ around the city centre. I’m not sure what it is that I love so much about these walks, maybe it’s because we live on the outskirts, so I like to see what is going on in town. There always seems to be something happening.

No shopping this time, except I did treat myself to some stick-on nails for my holidays. I always keep them short and unpainted for work — so thought I would try these for a change.

Im winding down ready for my trip, (let’s not talk about the fact that I am taking off at a rather busy time of year! It’s an unavoidable trip. Thank goodness for the fantastic team!) so I’ll be taking a break from the diary for a week or two.

See ya later y’all!
