Diary of a Cakemaker #22

Diary of a Cakemaker #22

4th Oct 2023

Well, what can I say? What a week!

Usually on a Saturday we finish at about 2pm, but this weekend we stayed late and then were straight back to it all day Sunday too!

Come Monday morning, we had a crazy early start — and our corporate order of 800 branded cupcakes was all boxed up and delivered before 7.30am!

That’s a LOT of cupcakes, I can tell you! I then dashed straight from the delivery to go and drop my son to school and then on to a meeting, and then another, and another! It has been a really busy month and I’ve had loads of meetings, both work-related and not.

For those of you who don’t know, I am now a fully-qualified life coach, alongside running the Cakery — you know me, making use of every single minute of the day! I usually have client meetings after work and on Mondays when the Cakery is closed, so as you can imagine this keeps my schedule pretty full!

As we were buried in cupcakes over the weekend, it was handy that we only had one wedding this week, at the Meldrum House Hotel. The cake was completely gorgeous, it had such lovely colours and was decorated with dried citrus fruits. I think it is one of my absolute favourites that I’ve made, I just loved the simplicity of it.

We had a second big order due for Tuesday too — thankfully for both these large orders we were able to do a fair bit of preparation in advance, so it wasn’t too hectic on delivery day.

I had my networking breakfast in the morning, and then headed to the Cakery for a few hours. Once everything was done, I decided I could take the rest of the day off, as I deserved a rest and some time to chill!

I’m not used to Mondays and Tuesdays being quite so hectic! This week certainly started with a bang!

Lewis is still off on his hols (not jealous at all!) and if I tell myself “We’ll be fine” often enough, it might just come true!

Seriously though, I am lucky to have such a fabulous team at the Cakery, so I’m sure we will be more than fine this week — we will smash it!
