Diary of a CakeMaker #13

19th Jul 2023

[Wednesday 19 July 2023]

Aaaaaand another busy one! The week started off with lots of orders on Tuesday, and on Wednesday we had a wedding! Off I went to Inverurie, got the fabulous wedding cake all set up, then disaster! I realised that the gluten-free cupcakes that completed the order were still at the Cakery! A 45-minute drive away. Eeek!

I decided to turn the return journey into a trip out and took my kids with me. Wedding all sorted, we made a special pitstop at Forest Farm —famed for its fabulous ice-cream — and it didn’t disappoint. Yum! The rest of Wednesday was then spent trying to catch up after my spontaneous road trip!

Thursday was a good day, the usual ‘busy busy’ during the day, then in the evening we ran a corporate staff team-building event. We hosted 16 lovely people from Harbour Energy and baked and decorated cupcakes. We then did a sugar craft challenge (this time with a Wimbledon theme!) which was great fun!

We had two wedding cakes to prepare on Friday for the weekend, one for Saturday at the amazing Barra Castle and one for Sunday. We also had a cupcake party at the Cakery on Saturday, they are all always a lot of fun. The children had a (rather sticky) blast!

I think Sunday was the highlight of my week! An early start to deliver and set up a wedding cake, then make it to Chapelton for the 9.30 start of my very first 10k run! It was a really tough race, so, so hilly! There was a 1k non-stop steep hill, with a rocky road (still got cake on the brain!) and it was a hard one!

I finished it in a good time though, so for a first go I was happy. I’ve definitely caught the bug for more 10k runs, I’m totally hooked! Since I can’t play tennis at the moment (sore hand/wrist … see last week’s diary) I’ve found something else to keep me moving!

After the race I went to friend's house, she was hosting for the Wimbledon final. Well! It was amazing — Djokovic and Alcaraz, the pairing I had been hoping for at the French Open final. It was electric! I was vying for Novak just because I felt maybe it was going to be his last chance of winning Wimbledon. I really like Alcaraz too though, and felt he played so well he deserved the win. It may have been my 10k earlier in the day, but I felt quite worn out by the end of their match!

It was such a nice week for me, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Let's see what the next week brings!
