Meet the Team

Meet the creative brains behind O'Caykx. We are a small team of people that love what we do. We work hard and play hard. We love a bit of banter too; In the midst of our ever busy day, we always have something to laugh about . . .

Name: Jill Miller

What you did before caking:

I'm a woman of many talents! I've been a butcher, a barmaid, a nursery worker and a cook. All these whilst doing cakes on the side for friends and family.

What would you do if you weren’t caking:

I've always wanted to be a paramedic. I just think they are amazing! So probably studying to work towards that.

Hobbies:

I would say roller derby but after 10years and 2 world cups, I've very recently retired. So my current hobbies are chilling at home with my husband and cat or spending time with my friends, family and my wee nephew. I'm enjoying not having a hobbie at the moment but I'm sure that won't last long.

Something interesting about you that most people don’t know:

In 2003, I played the bagpipes at the world championships with Olmeldrum Pipeband in the grade 4B level. We won and we got t-shirts printed, I still have that t-shirt.

Share a caking tip:

Baking is like science, if one element is wrong, it can ruin a good bake.

Jill is our Shop Manager and Chief Baker. She is passionate about baking and will happily bake all day! She’s like a powerful locomotive, she’s non-stop! You can’t mess with this babe! She calls the shots! She’s fondly called, Mrs J, ‘J’ or Boss.

Name: Lewis Robertson

What you did before caking

Before caking I worked as a waiter, whilst still attending school.

What would you do if you weren’t caking:

If I wasn’t caking, I’d probably pursue a career as an artist or photographer.

Hobbies:

I enjoy painting, being outdoors and taking photos (the majority of which are of my dog).

Something interesting about you that most people don’t know:

I have a twin brother. We look nothing alike and have completely different interests and personality traits.

Share a caking tip:

If I were to share a caking tip, it would be to experiment lots. If you have a wacky idea, try it. If it doesn’t work, then fair enough. But if you don’t get wellied in, you’ll never find out.

Fondly called Mr Lew, Lewis is our creative stylist - the man about the ‘house’! The guy’s got skill! He’s always experimenting with new designs and ideas – there’s no limit to his imagination. You seem to wonder what he’s up to next . . .

Name: Oyin Adekola

What you did before caking:

I worked as a Market Analyst with an oil and gas company.

What would you do if you weren’t caking:

I’m really not sure. I’ve thought about it a few times; Maybe teach? It’ll be great be a lady leisure though.

Hobbies:

Ooo! I love tennis. I could play it all day. I also love eating . . .

Something interesting about you that most people don’t know:

I can be quite introversive. I love the comfort of my home. I’d rather stay home with my family than go out.

Share a caking tip:

You don’t have to buy tools for everything. You can always improvise. I used an upside bowl as a turntable for a long time till I had enough disposable income to buy a turntable.

Oyin is the owner and creative stylist at O’Caykx. She loves cake decorating and is always up for a challenge. She can spend the whole day chatting with her precious customers, so it’s best not to get her started. She’s usually tucked away upstairs so she can get work done
